You probably heard of the word “CBD”. Well actually CBD is not a word, it is an initialism for cannabidiol (CannaBiDiol). This is the main chemical that is found in the Cannabis Sativa plant also known as marijuana or hemp. Aside from cannabidiol, there are some 80 more chemicals called cannabinoids. Among these cannabinoids is THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is the chemical that produces psychoactive effects on users. (It makes them “high”).
CBD and THC are both found in hemp and marijuana. Their content are of varying degree. Although CBD is adequately present in marijuana, THC is abundantly high. Comparatively, CBD is abundantly present in hemp, but extremely low in THC. Hemp contains 0.03% THC, not enough to make you high. CBD is the reason why marijuana is an alternative medicine. The only problem is that it has psychoactive effects. Hemp is the safest source of CBD.
